Brent Parrott grew up sleeping under piano benches or curled up in a base drum not being used-- his parents were professionals but also musicians. "They instilled a professional work ethic in me about music," he says. Before the age of 15, Brent grew up playing piano, drums and
tenor sax. "At about 15, I gravitated toward bass and guitar, picking it up rather quickly. My parents put me right to work." This began his commercial stint that eventually ranged from supper clubs to honky tonks. In high school in the late 1980s, Brent expanded his range to include the hard rock and metal of the time, as well as 70s rock. Today, his music reflects the influences of Billy Sheehan, Getty Lee of Rush, and John Paul Jones of Led
Zepplin. Then he fell into a 3-year love affair with neoclassical bands like Dream Theater. Early 90's music, Grunge, helped Brent develop into the bass player that he is today. He began ripping the frets out of his basses, and playing fretless, using nylon strings and developing flowing, melodic but groove-oriented -- with neo-classical flow in his style. Demurring and perfectionist about his work, Brent Parrott is a strong element in The
Holistix when it comes to weaving those complex nonverbal conversations. And as if this were not enough, Dead Parrott Productions is his individual singer-songwriter music project which is coming into its own right. We'll keep you posted right here, so look for more from this talented musician in the future!
